It is a hell of a premise isn’t it; the man you thought was the love of your life suddenly taken off to jail on your wedding night…I have been eyeing off this novel for too long! I was very aware going in it’s been labeled twisty, pacey, ‘you won’t see the twists coming’ and I kind of do think that isn’t really the novel I read.
It felt like one twist at 90% I didn’t feel that was foreshadowed enough; for me it did feel like all of a sudden we were in a psychological thriller? I am there for a ‘how well do we ever really know the man we are married to’ novel, I just don’t think that’s what the bulk of the novel is (I know, maybe I just missed the signs? I certainly have gone back and looked for clues 🤷♀️)
But gosh I loved the chance to try on being a surgeon in these pages! The in the weeds parenting and bone tiredness of small twins, coupled with a beloved father with alzheimers, a busy sister and absent mother…loved that all and a road not travelled love absolutely! Completely there for it…and for me that’s what the novel could have been?
