You kind of have to do a Horse themed recommendations in August don’t you! I’ve has so much fun thinking about all the wonderful books there are where horses are featured! In the end I went with these, but goodness I could have picked out any Penelope Janu, The Horse, Sea Biscuit, Second Chance, War Horse, A Pony for Summer….so many great horse books and stories out there…
I adored Black Beauty growing up and accidentally read it again just recently, that Ginger just got me in the feels.. its such a beautiful read and such a classic I couldn’t not feature. Anna Sewell apparently wrote Black Beauty in order to convince a wide audience of the importance of the humane treatment of animals, and her love of horses shins through. It’s a beautiful read.
Charlie Mackesy has given us an incredible gift with The Boy, the mole, the fox and the horse. It is a beautiful read, a wonderful conversation and parable. It isn’t really about horses at all, but how could I not include it, such a beauty.
Slow Horses is not about horses at all either, but it’s new to me and top of mind for this post…It’s a spy thriller set in a dumping ground for spies who’ve screwed up. I ate this up with a spoon! So so so good! I can’t wait to read more! Mick Herron for life!
We are doing Horse for our August bookclub, and I am so glad to have the opportunity to reread the Geraldine Brooks masterpiece. It is about a racehorse and I would never have thought I would be so interested in race horses! It is also about slavery and art and race relations..it is so so so good. I loved it!
Whistler is everywhere at the moment and certainly does not need my endorsement, but how could I not. It is my favourite
Ann Patchett yet, I loved it. All the family connections, all the love and misunderstanding, memories and the stories we tell, it is also not at all about Whistler the horse really, but could not have recommended anything else; loved it!
