How fun is a book set in a library! I love the Sutherland Shire libraries and I know you do too, getting to read a great book set in a library feels very meta and so this month I thought I’d lean right into that and here are five books set in libraries (I’m still waiting one set in the Sutherland Library though..how great would that be!!) What would you include in your list; I could so easily have made it ten books long and included the Midnight Library, or The Books That Wouldn’t Burn, The Personal Librarian or The Secret Society of Librarians….
The Woman in the Library is a thriller written by Australian author Sulari Gentill, set in the Boston Library where four friends are gathered and hear a woman dying scream..it’s super twisty and compulsive and so much fun!
The Little Wartime Library is just such a delight, I love Kate Thompson novels; this was my first and just a lovely place to start. It’s historical fiction done with so much love, and goodness the English did incredibly well keep calm and carry on! Underground train platforms transformed into so much more than bomb shelters, and demonstrates so well that the library really can be the beating heart of a community! Loved it
I know I recommend a lot of Sally Hepworth, but they are honestly so easy to recommend! The Good Sister is one of my favourites, and Fern our main character is such the good sister! There is a gift of a baby, the quest of finding the father for that baby and a career in a library…what is not to love
I’ve not read a book quiet like The Library Book by Susan Orlean before. Its a non fiction account of a library fire in the Los Angeles Public Library that happened in 1986. If you haven’t read it yet I know you will love it. It talks not only about that love for books and libraries we all know and have, but also the state of libraries now and what they were, the direction they are headed in now..it is so interesting and while it is very America- centric I still got a TBR a mile long and so much appreciation for libraries, librarians and books in general! I can’t believe they haven’t yet solved the mystery of who started the fire and why…
I adore Rachael Johns and particularly The Other Bridget. Another book that you will finish with so many more books to read on your list! Bridget was named for Bridget Jones and what is not to love about that! She works in a library and is in charge of their bookclubs, she has a new grumpy neighbour and a cute barista and that is all I will say, such a treat from start to finish!
