I feel its time for my OMG halfway through 2025/ Where is this year going post…but honestly can you believe it?!? Winter solstice done? Kirrawaee Library open? These events all felt so far away…so of course that got me thinking about time and gosh from there it was only a hop and skip away from books that use time to really well.
I am a huge Michael Thompson fan. I loved How to be Remembered and absolutely adored All the Perfect Days. His new book centres around Dr Charlie Knight who can suddenly see how many days left his patients have..what would you do? Would you want to know? How would you fill them…this novel gave me all the feels! We are lucky enough to have an author event with Michael scheduled for August at Kirrawee library, I’m looking forward to it already! I also want to let you know he has a 100 bookclubs in 100 days challenge that he has set himself, so if you are in a bookclub you should definitely look to that, all the details are on his website and it’s super easy to navigate…
The Time Traveler’s Wife is absolutely one of my top five all time novels, I love love love this one. I’ve read Audrey Niffengger’s other works but I don’t know Henry and Claires story just really hits for me. I can’t articulate why… all the love, all the music, all the books…but there is more? I adore this one and imagine being a time travelling librarian…
Florence Knapp’s The Names came out only a few weeks ago and is like a ‘sliding doors’ book; it asks what would happen if a baby is named as per the father’s choice, the mother’s or the baby’s sister and it was fascinating. There are strong trigger warnings required though, I can see it won’t be for everyone. But I loved it..still pondering it honestly
How would any recommendations list on time be complete without Diana Gabaldon’s epic Outlander series! A WW2 nurse honeymooning in Scotland who accidentally goes back to 1740s and finds her soulmate! Love, adventure and so much more..Definitely the stuff of classic time novels. I I’ve been reading these since the 90s and adore them..gosh it would be a challenge to start the series now; they are bricks..but so lucky, the series is coming to an end (hopefully she is writing the last as I type..)
I am not going to say too much about Christian White’s The Wife and the Widow..I’m afraid I’ve given too much away even by including it in my recs. Read it and we can chat then!
