Oh my goodness, how are we here in December 2024! What a year!
I hope you are just easing in to the festive season, that work is now winding down, that festive reading winding up..that regardless of the busyness you can take some time and roam the library aisles..I love that feeling!!!
This month I started with December in the title books and threw in a summer time vibe and a bookclub one that I read years ago but will randomly remember a scene from and wonder how those characters are going now…I hope you love these recommendations and have a very happy end of the year
I love Benjamin Stevenson, I adore Ernest Cunningham and Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret is just such a fun mystery perfect for reading in December…its also only a short one so if you are looking for a fast Goodreads addition its perfect!
One Day in December is just another perfect December read! Such a fun romance that will give you all the feels, I really like Josie Silver novels; you fly through the pages and there is so much romance
A Week in December by Sebastian Faulks is a completely different read! Its such beautiful prose, such an critique on modern living; consumerism, greed, mental health..so much to think about in these pages, it won’t make you run out and buy more Christmas decorations but maybe that’s not a bad thing?
I loved Liz Moore’s The God of the Woods, its set in an American Summer Camp and its such a literary thriller…huge themes like wealth and power, missing children galore and such beautiful descriptions of the woods, this is a haunting novel and not at all christmasy, but more a great summer read!
We read A Month of Sundays years ago for bookclub. It was my first Liz Bryski novel and I can see what all they hype is about; really memorable characters, really relatable issues, this was just a great book about so many things; ageing, loneliness and friendship, the power of connection and the joy of reading… perfect to see 2024 out with!
