By chance the last two books that have been chosen for the OG Bookclub were favourites of mine that I didn’t think I would reread, I thought too fresh in my head still. But I wanted to flick through and just be sure I could chat about them properly for bookclub so I borrowed them from the library- my copies having been lent out and hopefully safe and sound…
OMG it was such a pleasurable reading experience!!!! I LOVED reading Year of Wonders again, I didn’t think I would post covid but I really appreciated it so much more knowing the storyline like I did. My flick through turned into sitting and devouring and really savouring the beautiful writing.
Even with that experience I did not for a second think I would really do exactly the same thing with the next bookclub book- Boy Swallows Universe!!!! Another favourite for so many different reasons…I just could not put it down and that’s even after having just watched the TV adapation! But the more I read the more I am convinced this is a modern day Australian classic; I absolutely was just reading it as a new book when I first read it!! I
But this makes me so worried really, now in addition to all the books I want to read for the first time I’m going to be wanting to read all the ones I’ve already read over again!!!!
And how many is enough? Would Year of Wonders be even more beautiful in another five years time? What about books I didn’t connect with? Should I check those out again….
Ahhh the reader life is a hard one….
