Australian Reading Hour

It was ARH yesterday and in my readerly soul it is a really was a lovely day to celebrate. The idea for Australian Reading Hour is to pick up an Australian book and read for an hour. That is something I have no problem doing!

It’s certainly no issue for me to read for an hour a day. If anything it’s a problem only reading for an hour a day! I get so much enjoyment out of reading, it is my relaxation, the way I celebrate, the way I sooth and comfort myself (I think I must be the only person I know who is never too stressed to read, it’s always been the best escape from a stressful situation). I have tried not to read before going to sleep, and it just doesn’t work for me at all! Even if its the latest night ever (think 9.32 for me..) I still need to pick up and read for a while. It’s completely the way I decompress I guess. It’s so much a part of me I just couldn’t not!

I love reading Australian fiction. I’m not pedantic about it, I just seem to naturally lean towards it. We have a wealth of talented Aussie writers it’s just a no brainer! I mean we have Jane Harper and Markus Zusak! We also have Rachael Johns and Ashley Kalagian Blunt, Dinuka McKenzie and Emma Grey…the list knows no bounds. My recent reads are a real testimony to how wonderful it is to be a reader in Australia. Without Further ADO and Apartment 303 could not have been more different from one another yet both set in Sydney 2023, it is SO much fun to think yep I’ve been there, yes I do know that view, I can completely picture that pub, I’m sure I’ve been down that road…We are so lucky to have such riches at our fingertips (or earbuds, I have got to do more audio..)

So I hope you did Australian Reading Hour too and I hope like me it’s something you just do as a matter of course, because I definitely think my life is all the better for it!
