I read this novel on holidays, and found myself just constantly thinking about it… ‘I think it’s about understanding and about sharing’ I just loved this novel. What a way to do historical fiction!!! I am completely there for the reforming/ storytelling metaphor, (less so the actual processes, that seemed unnecessary haha) I adored the grandparent/ grandchild relationship. I loved seeing Monica connect ‘to the women in our family, for everything to involve a pencil and a broken heart’
The Phoenix Pencil Company might be the weirdest book I’ve loved in 2025?
