I am the least swifty person I know and even I am intrigued by the Life of a Showgirl album. I am leaning right into that this month with my recommendations! Here are my life of a showgirl adjacent reads!!!!
I LOVED The One and Only Dolly Jamieson. I adore Lisa Ireland novels and this one is probably my favourite. When we first meet Dolly she is homeless and taking shelter in a library, but of course there is so much more than ‘the homeless old woman’ and this novel explores that so well. It’s been a while since I read it so I’m loathed to say too much, but absolutely Dolly is the ultimate showgirl! You’ll see!
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert sprung straight to mind when I first started thinking showgirl and as soon as you start reading you’ll understand why! It’s a complete romp..All the clothes!! All the debauchery!!!! So much fun, despite not really having any loveable characters for me…so much fun!
I’ve just devoured Gwyneth The Biography by Amy Odell, and for me it was so much fun. What an ultimate movie star, despite reading the book cover to cover I actually don’t feel I know Gwyneth Paltrow any better than I did before I picked it up, she really has done a great job at only giving what she is prepared to let us know etc…fun (like I had completely forgotten the Shakespeare in Love Oscar dress fit hahah) what a showgirl!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is just fantastic! I loved every page and tore through this novel, as I think will you! Another ultimate showgirl and so glad I got to revisit it for this list! What a life!
I really only wanted to read Bailet Shoes by Noel Streadfeild because its in that You’ve Got Mail scene in Fox Books..but I adored it. Three sisters determined to write their names in the history books..super adorable. I loved it
