November Recommendations

I’m taking inspiration from NaNoWriMo month which happens in November. I think its been a thing for years now; its a month long get writing initiative…writers are encouraged to talk about their goals and check in for a month; I think the idea is to just get over yourself and write the damn novel already? Which doesn’t sound very fun to this reader, but I do very much enjoy the fruits of their labours; so I guess whatever works?

I thought it would be fun to theme my November recs to books about books and writers! Which ones would you include?

I LOVE me some Emily Henry and Beach Read is all the reasons why, its the funnest enemies to lovers for these two writers, there’s also so much Nora Ephron love and ahhh love of books, bookshops and reading.. what’s not to love? I could read it again this month!

Jasper Jones was my first Craig Silvey and true love will last a lifetime; I love Charlie, it does cover so many heavy topics and themes, but that love of people and humanity just is so obvious on every page. As is the love of books and writers, have you read this one yet? I just think its an Australian classic, I loved it

Another classic by someone who clearly loves people and stories is Boy Swallows Universe. Eli  Bell feels like a personal friend of mine, and I know he will become one of yours too. Trent Dalton is another author who is clearly in love with humankind and stories, I know it’s been a best seller for years and there is a series adaptation coming and you know if you haven’t read it yet it’s probably because you don’t want to, but honestly I could’t recommend it more highly enough!

Sulari Gentil’s The Woman in the Library is a book within a book within a book…its completely my type of thriller because it was just so clever, and so not bloody or gory! So much fun, but so completely a puzzle to solve. She is an Australian author but this one is set in Boston.. twisty, turny, so much fun!!!

The House That Joy Built is my non fiction rec this month; its all about lighting that creative flame, and I completely didn’t think I’d get anything out of it because I have no writing aspirations, I went into it because I would read Holly Ringlands’ shopping list if I could.. but we all need to hear go gently, nurture that spark, back into a room backwards if you have to but don’t not go in..I loved it and completely know you will too! Especially if you are going to write that novel in November!!!
