The Book Is Always Better…

I’ve had the most bookish vs movie weekend ever! I went to the movies with my sisters on Saturday night to see Where The Crawdads Sing and my library copy of 11.22.63 is overdue today so I just had to sit there and read hard for the rest of the time 😉 then once I had finished it we watched half of the series on Binge. It really made me think about books vs movie…it was such a funny experience.

I LOVED Where The Crawdads Sing, we read it years ago now and were SO excited when we heard it was being made into a movie/ when it was being made into a movie/ when it was a movie we could go and see!!! Gee I loved the book so much I was excited when I saw the poster for the movie! And I was not disappointed! Kya was perfect, Tate and Chase were spot on, Jumpin’ was just as I imagined him, and the marsh was just like I knew it would be…I think I had tears in my eyes from start to finish. It was all exactly like it was in my head…

I had the opposite experience with 11.22.63, its such a descriptive story and I could completely see it as a movie; I googled it wondering why it hadn’t been made and was so surprised it had been, its an 8 part series. I think I must have only been a couple of chapters in… I knew Dave would love it so as soon as I had finished it we were straight in. I loved Jake and Al, it was SO good still, but man so much was left out…it’s a 700 page novel, so of course there was. Dave loved it, and was keeping up no problem, but where was the details? All his wonder and the jokes… I just kept thinking how much better the book was…

So now I know what I should have realised years ago, time does make the movie better!
