Paperbark Hill

I love love love a Maya Linnell novel, you know you are in the safest hands and you can just settle in and enjoy. This is the fourth of her novels that I’ve read and completely adored. I think Paperbark Hill is her best yet. The characters quickly become firm friends, with back stories and side stories galore. There is so much of the writing that is quintessentially Australian; ‘the stringybark tree that swayed like a drunken B&S ball-goer’. Loved the themes of grief, community, second chances and family that this rural fiction explores, and I will never not question the origin of flowers in florists and supermarkets ever again. I loved devouring the last of the McIntyre sisters story, and can’t wait to read whatever Maya Linnell writes next!
