The Good Woman of Renmark

I’ve had this wonderful novel sitting on my bedside for way too long. I knew it would be great and I wasn’t disappointed. An action packed, romance full historical read, it ticked every box. The Murray River was just such a living breathing feature of the novel, it was so much more than setting. I love learning more about our Australian colonial days; a time when spider bites were fatal, childbirth petrifying and travel by steamboat dangerous. I love seeing what every day life was like, the earthen floor that would have been ‘checked for snakes each night before bed’. I loved Maggie and her commitment to independence. I loved Sam with his singing drunk or sober. I can’t imagine ever forgetting Bucky the Murray River Retriever x this was such a great book
